Predictions For the Next 10 to 20 Years

I'm no economist, no philosopher, no historian, but I am highly conscious day to day of how it feels to be alive. From my bones, to my firing neurons, to my vibrational aura, and how It feels to be In any given space, I am aware.

I am tapped into to the social, political, and economic climate in a number of ways, listening to theories and analyses. Now I want to offer into the void a few theories and predictions of my own. This should act as something of a time capsule to be revisited or at the very least, edited, only Februrary 13, 2036 or later. (Future me can edit with updates about whether I was correct or not. (Note to future Imara: Use a different color and/or font for those edits)).

1. Predictions Myself in 10 and then 20 years:

11 years ago to this day, just a few hours from the time I am writing this, I was in the car with Aliya and my dad, just entering onto Lake Shore Drive after being picked up from St. Ignatius. I was in the backseat, Aliya was in the front seat, and of course my father was driving. I opened my email and was immediately greeted with a letter from NYU admissions, congratulating me on my acceptance to the Liberal Studies Program. I remember screaming, almost scaring my father, and letting them know what I had just read. I don't really remember how we celebrated.

Today, I am 28, I am an "Assistant Manager" at a Prop House/ Production Studio, and in some ways, I am living the dream that I would never even believe I'd come close to as a kid.

There is something to writing your dreams as if they are inevitable. Maybe it's because it incentivizes you to follow through to avoid the humiliation of acknowledging that you failed or you dreamed to big. Whatever it is, I won't write my predictions as "hopes", I will write them as facts, and I will just have to face the outcome of doing so 10 years from now.

All that said, 10 years from now, I will have directed 2 or 3 films, including my cult classic debut, Saturday Night Creeper. After directing SNC, I moved back to Chicago where I got married to Michael and I started a cannabis business following the Photodom model which prioritizes creating community to gain brand loyalty. The business Is profitable enough that I can take 2-3 yearly vacations and even buy a home in New York. Michael and I have a 3 year old kid. I have many creative hobbies and emotional outlets.

Alexis and I are still close friends.

I still write and direct films, but my main focus is my family and my dispensary. I'll either be back in school at NYU getting my PHD in Cinema studies, or I'll have gotten an honorary doctorate.

On February 13, 2046, I'll be 48 years old. The child I predicted to be born in 2033 will be 13 and maybe have a younger sibling. If there is no younger sibling, then Alexis and or Aliya's kids will be like siblings to them. Michael and I will still be happily married. We will have invested very well since opening the dispensary, so we'll see exponential returns on those investments. The dispensary will be doing extremely well, but I may have sold most of my stake and decided to retire so that I could just stay on vacation, raise my kids, and write and direct movies. If I sold the dispensary, then I will be using my wealth to give back to the community in other ways. I will be overall very happy.

2. Predictions for Technology:

   - Before the Great DOGE Destruction of 2025, there was funding and research for cancer that suggested a cure was on the horizon. By 2046, the cure will be realized.

   
   

   - The AI bubble will have popped by 2027 and the entire market for it will be gone. Regular people will still use AI for tasks and to ask questions, but it will mainly be used by scientists and engineers.

   
   

   - In rebellion against the predatory subscription model and increasing control of "the cloud", people will have reverted to manual, tactical, and physical media/objects overwhelmingly in technology, media, and even represented through design of all kind. By 2033.

   
   

   - Cell phone design will go back to being fun OR more people will revert to using vintage phones and land lines by 2036.

   
   

   - When the US economy crashes, if things devolve until we because a developing nation again, cyber security to prevent deepfakes and scams will become the biggest industry. If things improve after the economy crashes, the middle class will expand and we will see a contemporary renaissance of technology and art. Technology that focuses on improving people's lives will become the most profitable market.

   
   

   - By 2036, It will be necessary to focus on technology that combats the intensifying effects of global warming. People will be working on technology to reverse the effects, should the world economy see an improvement.

3. Predictions for the State of The World:

   - The rest of the world will look down on the US with intense disgust and no respect by 2028. Americans may be banned from or at least unwelcomed in countries worldwide.

   
   

   - Many countries in Africa like Sudan, Rwanda, and the Congo will be rebuilding from destruction with aid from European countries as a way to wash the blood from their hands from participating and creating destabilized communities.

   
   

   - Gaza will be almost completely destroyed by 2030, and history will look in repulsion as the leaders of countries such as the US and of course Israel who contributed to its destruction. It will be considered the contemporary Holocaust. Israel and any country that supported Israel will owe reparations, but it will never be enough to make up for the scale of the atrocities committed. Palestinians will experience the same treatment as Native Americans– promises built on lies, and no true justice. Because how can justice every be served?

   
   

   - Israel will be banished from the rest of the world, as will anyone individual who supported their genocidal actions. Maybe Israel will even be renamed. Netanyahu will face extensive trials, prison time, and execution by 2031.

   
   

   - Putin will also be tried for his actions against Ukraine. He will be found guilty of almost everything and put to death by 2030.

4. Predictions For the State of The US:

   - Donald Trump will try to steal the 2028 election for an Illegal 3rd term, causing civil war to break out between ICE and Police as well as MAGAts and Progressives.

   
   

   - Hundred or thousands of people will die protesting this fascist era that began in 2024.

   
   

   - Progressives will win the civil war and a new system of government will be ushered in starting in 2030.

   
   

   - People who voted for Trump will be societal outcasts and social pariahs.

   
   

   - Gun violence will peak in 2032 until it is finally addressed.

   
   

   - Elon Musk will have his citizenship revoked for his actions with DOGE.

   
   

   - In 2027 anyone who worked for Trump via ICE, his cabinet, the DOJ, the FBI, anyone in the Epstein Files, and Trump himself will face extensive trials for all the illegal things they did. Trump will face impeachment but will die before he ever faces justice for his life of sadism and crime.

   
   

   - Trump will go in the history books as the first dictator of the US.

   
   

   - The immigrant detention centers will be recognized as concentration camps, and people who were kidnapped by ICE will be owed reparations and a public governmental apology for their suffering.

   
   

   - The US will be looked down on by every other country. People will stop immigrating here and US citizen will move to countries like Canada or the UK in search of a better life.

   
   

   - The loneliness epidemic will worsen and end with a full generation of mentally unstable people and unstable children raised by them. People will increasingly seek ways to cope with the feeling that we have lost something in life that was promised to us. Or that we never had those things to begin with. Love. Meritocracy. Home-ownership. Time. A future.

   
   

   - Gen Z is the first generation that is worse off than our parents. Our generation of politicians will see this, and make drastic changes to the country to try to make up for what the boomers destroyed.

   
   

   - People will rebel against the ultra-high surveillance state and refuse to participate in systems that will be used to control them like Palantir.

   
   

   - Books will be written about how Epstein and that whole class of people lived as secret super villans/ pseudo-world ambassadors, controlling any and everything without us knowing for decades. Many things that were thought to be conspiracy will be confirmed.

   
   

   - The 2020s will be regarded as one of the darkest ages in American history. A time where screens, digital bullshit, and fallacies took over the world which already seemed to be on fire. It’s on fire and no one knows how to actually put it out. 

   We felt powerless. I felt powerless to control anything other than myself, which at some point ceased to feel like enough. We will be analyzing the the psychological toll of being aware of world wide trauma that we are powerless to intervene in on a daily basis and finding it to be significantly more detrimental than previously thought.
